There’s nothing like writing in an old school Composition Book. I can smell the school supplies from elementary school. I think my life was changed forever when Ms. (yes Ms.!!!!) Russell introduced the concept of creativity to our class. I can’t explain, but I knew my life had a purpose...

I love empty things -- composition books, canvases, blank CD’s and DVD’s and black warrior pencils... I’m easy to please.

Sometimes my taste confuses people (who am I kidding? One or two of my friends). For example, I’ve been listening to this Janet Jackson b-side non-stop for the last few days. Let me see if I can explain why... It’s not like it’s the best of her early ’90’s hits, but it’s the one I’ve heard the least. The thing that I love about this song is that it is a perfect example of “chemistry”. The chemistry between Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis is inexplicable so when I listen to this song I am reminding myself of the chemistry I wish to create with the people I work with and that is how I get inspired.

Of course, this is me talking to me... It’s not about you. It’s never about you. If you don’t understand that, then I can’t explain it. Even if it’s time for my close-up, it’s not about me. Can you feel that?

When I was very, very young (maybe two or three) I crawled under a bed and my aunt Marcella (one of my favorite aunts! I truly love her so much) who was watching me, grabbed me by the leg and pulled me out from under it. My face got caught on one of the coils. She didn’t know it and continued to pull me. Needless to say, I was bleeding a great deal. When she came to pick me up, my mother was furious. I’ve had it all my life. When I did THE COSBY SHOW, the make-up artist covered it with eyeliner. When my mother saw the show, she said she didn’t recognize me. So as a tribute to my mother (Gloria Richards, who is no longer with us), I never cover it!
